A small, lightweight recording device with leads attached to the chest to monitor the rhythm of electrical impulses traveling through the heart. It is worn for 24 hours.
Cardiac Catheterization & Angiography
A diagnostic procedure used to detect blockages in coronary arteries and bypass grafts. A small plastic tube is guided through the arteries, and x-ray contrast material is injected to outline the arteries and blockages while x-ray pictures are taken.
Cardiac Stress Test (Treadmill Exercise Test)
A treadmill exercise test measures your cardiovascular response to physical exercise. During the procedure, your heart rate and blood pressure will be measured with an EKG recording device.
Coronary Angioplasty
A procedure in which a catheter (a tube specially designed for a narrow opening) with a balloon tip is pressed against the walls of a clogged artery to open it as the balloon expands.
Coronary Atherectomy
A procedure in which a catheter is used to remove plaque and other material from within a coronary artery.
Coronary Stents
A procedure used after Angioplasty or Atherectomy in which a small metal tube is implanted inside the artery walls to keep the artery open.
Echocardiogram
The use of ultrasound, extremely high-frequency sound waves, to detect structural and blood flow problems in the heart.
Nuclear Cardiology
The use of a dual-head imaging camera to visualize and evaluate the blood flow to your heart using radioactive isotopes introduced into your arm through an intravenous line.
Stress Echocardiogram (Treadmill Exercise Test)
A treadmill exercise test to measure your cardiovascular system's response to exercise. Pictures are taken before you exercise and a second set immediately after.
Symptomatic Ambulatory ECG Monitoring
A small recording device worn continuously to monitor the heart rhythm and store information when symptoms of heart abnormalities occur.
