Nuclear Medicine

This procedure will evaluate the blood flow to your heart using a radioactive isotope, thus allowing your cardiologist to determine if the heart is receiving the blood it needs to function properly.

The procedure will be performed utilizing the isotopes Thallium or Cardiolite. Pictures will be taken both at rest and after exercise (either treadmill or pharmacological). The isotope will be introduced through an IV line placed in your arm. The radiation exposure involved in this procedure is minimal (less than a chest x-ray). Please read the description of Treadmill Testing for more details regarding the treadmill.
